You’re probably hearing about Twitter everywhere these days, and it’s not just from online marketers. It’s being talked about on TV every day too!

Celebrities are using it. Big companies are tweeting. I’ve heard of people tweeting as their house is getting ROBBED!

Whether you think Twitter is a faze or not, it is not going anywhere any time soon.

In case you don’t know what twitter is, it is basically a “micro blog”, where users can talk about things going on in their lives with a small, 140 character entry.

I know it sounds silly, but so did blogs, Myspace, and Pokemon! Ok…Pokemon still sounds silly, but it’s been around for about decade now. =)

The real power of Twitter is being able to connect with people. With people on it all the time, it’s a chance to show people what you’re truly like as a person and actually create dialogue with people that you might not normally get to talk to.

I’ve learned quite a bit about some marketers just by following them on Twitter, and I’ve even make purchases from peoples’ tweets!

So whether you want to build your brand, make some money, expand your business, follow the people you look up to, or just follow your friends, Twitter is one of the most popular places where you can do it.

It’s funny.

I’ve never been a big fan of that fancy web 2.0 stuff like Myspace, Facebook, etc. I hardly ever talk to my old high school buddies on my social networking accounts. It just never really caught on with me personally. Even with blogging, I’m still uncomfortable doing it at times.

I started because some marketers I respect say I need to do it. And hey, if they are more successful than I am, I listen.

But something unexpected happened when I started doing all of this stuff…

I started recognizing people! I am now connecting and talking with people that I probably wouldn’t have noticed otherwise.

For example, if you look on my blog in the right side column, you’ll notice that I have lists posted for active commenters.

When you leave comments on my blog, I see it!
When you say something intelligent in a comment, I notice you!
When you’re leaving comments every week, I start looking for you!
When you reply to something I say on facebook or myspace, I actually read it and see who it’s from!
And when it comes time to do business together, you’ll have a MUCH better chance of getting a yes!

There’s people that I remember from my blog. And if I find them on places like Twitter or Myspace, I add them to my friends list just based off of that.

I realize this is part of what web 2.0 is all about. But I’m amazed at how much you can stand out just by one simple gesture.

It’s unfortunate that it took me so long to realize the power of web 2.0, but better late than never!

If you’re like me, don’t be afraid to jump in and give it a try. You never know who you’ll meet or if some big name marketer might be interested in learning more about you!

Step 1) Find blogs in your niche and leave *quality* comments about the posts. Engage in conversations with other readers too!

Step 2) Look for forums in your niche and start participating.

Step 3) Get active at social networks like facebook and myspace. Good places to start are finding groups in your niche and meeting people there.

The internet really is awesome. Before the internet, the average person would have to spend tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars to start a business.

And even better, there are TONS of people out there willing to help you out in your time of need. Even with tips on how to grow your online business.

But there’s also a big downside to that…

You don’t know these people or how successful they are! This is especially true on Internet Marketing forums. It’s something I see all the time, and it’s something you need to be aware of.

All the time I see questions asked on my favorite forums. People are always looking for help and it’s great to ask questions.

But sometimes I see an answer that doesn’t sound right, or I KNOW isn’t right.

One of the first things I do is I look at WHO posted the answer and how they answered the question.

And this is where the disturbing part comes in. Most of the time these people answering YOUR questions don’t know what they’re talking about! Even though they mean well, they are giving you BAD advice.

Often times the comments will just be educated (but incorrect) guesses on the right thing to do, rather than based off of real testing or experiences.

I always recommend seeking help from others. I know the internet marketing world can be completely overwhelming.

Just be aware of who you’re getting your advice from. You want to make sure it’s someone successful so you can learn how to do things the right way.

I used to listen to anyone who was willing to offer their advice. I’d read ebooks that I downloaded in massive packages, not knowing anything about the author. I would actually do what those people said and let me tell you … that was a BIG mistake!

Part of the reason I failed in the past is because I was taking advice from people who didn’t know what they were doing.

Now I make sure I only listen to marketers I trust and know are doing well, and it’s made a huge difference in my income.

Luckily there’s a few places you can go for real advice from real experts.

1) Stop accepting advice from just anyone. This is especially a big problem on major forums.

2) Start paying attention to who the real experts are and try only take information from people that are doing well for themselves.

Oh, don’t know what the SWAT Seminar is? It’s actually a seminar offered exclusively to Captain Members of SWAT Traffic. As always, we touched on a lot of subjects, and one of them was if we ever tell anyone about SWAT Traffic! One of the great points I heard was that if you talked to a big celebrity like Michael Jordan, Bill Clinton, or Anthony Robbins, you would tell all your friends about it right?

Well today I was learning directly from some of the best business people I’ve ever had the pleasure of talking to at the SWAT Traffic Seminar! Although it is a traffic exchange, many internet marketing concepts are discussed here on a weekly basis and I’m learning new things that make me more money every time I attend.

So to end this quick “lecture” before I get to why I posted in the first place, you can learn directly from some of the top internet marketers every week at SWAT Traffic for just $20 or a month. I doubt you can find a better deal than that anywhere.

But anyway, my new website Fast Action Ads just hit 1,000 members, and I’m really excited about that since we did it in just under 3 weeks.

That got me really thinking about how much networking has paid off for me recently. At Washington DC, I met the owner of Downline Builder Direct and we’ve been working together lately and that has already resulted in somewhere around 100 sign ups at my website EliteSafelist in the past week. I also may have another potential project with one of my friends that I finally got to meet in DC. Thanks to the several people who helped me launch Fast Action Ads, that site is also growing at a phenomal rate.

I sound like a broken record saying this, but I got my start in this business thanks to meeting people and receiving their help along the way. But what’s even more incredible is that every time I look back, I’m seeing that networking continues to pay off all the time.

I know it’s hard sometimes, but just do it because quite honestly it pays to meet people. And if you’re in business to make money, networking is great for making new friends and earning more cash.

Well this past weekend I attended the Focus Marketing Seminar in Washington DC.

The weekend sure started off funky, with our flight being delayed and most of our luggage being lost. But with some luck and a lot of running through the airport, my girlfriend and I made it to DC on time.

Many of the great people who have been helping me from the NetMarketingForum has been preaching for awhile to attend one of these events. So when I learned that most of them were going to this event in DC, I made it my goal to go just so I could meet them. Another reason I went is because I wanted to know what all the fuss was about with these events!

I’m so happy to say that I had the pleasure to meet a TON of great people in person, including Jon Olson, Paul Kinder, Jon Atwood, Tim Linden, Tony Tezak, Soren Jordansen, Tim Rash, Robert Purcell, Cindy Battye, Dan Moses, Dan Davis, Bill Portnova, William Brant, Paul Conway, Sunny Siggs, Ryan Hogan, and plenty more but I’ll stop the list here.

Many were up at all hours of the night hanging out and getting to know each other. I’m not much of a party guy, but even I had a great time hanging out with everyone.

During the event, I also got a chance to see/meet some of the top Internet Marketers in the world. Among my favorite speakers were Stephen Pierce and Armand Morin, who really blew me away.

I also took home some great stuff, including books, courses, a cruise, and a prize from Dr. Mike Woo-Ming and Brian Koz.

Unfortunately I don’t have many pictures of the event since my camera wasn’t charged and I was out of the hotel room most of the time, but I’m sure Tim Linden will have some pictures posted up soon.

I had a great time at the event. If you happen to know of a big event you can attend, make sure you can go. The real value of these events is not just about learning directly from the best marketers in the world, but also in being able to meet new people that you could do business with in the future. It really is great being around others with similar goals and aspirations.

Well it’s 4:00 in the morning now and I’m ready to get some rest so I can get back to work and put all the things I’ve learned into action. Oh… and my luggage is missing again, twice in one trip!
